Professor Theodore Chao presents his research and scholarship about how to talk about math with children to increase their confidence in their own mathematical thinking. Dr. Chao’s five points: (1) There is no such thing as a math person or a non-math person. (2) Everyone has math anxiety. And usually it’s not about math. (3) Remember, faster isn’t smarter. (4) Who’s doing the thinking? Who’s doing the talking? (5) Listen for thinking, not for an answer.
